Garden inspiration with reuse at its heart. D’Arcys shows you what’s possible
The garden, which is just a stone’s throw from the sea, is a well hidden little gem on the island of Lyrön. Scented roses, perennials, fruit trees and some unusual plants all thrive in this warm but windy position. Thinking about recycling and reusing is characteristic of the D’Arcy family and they hope to be able to inspire visitors to do the same. Creating something new and different based on a place and the opportunities it offers, with not a lot of means, is what makes the challenge exciting. Here, the old well has been transformed into an inviting waterlily pond and the garden sofa is stripped turn of the century and three bed bases!
The garden style is English/romantic and during summer you can enjoy aconites, lilies, lavender, hollyhocks and dahlias, among others. There’s seasonal colour to enjoy in the garden from spring through till autumn, and a lot to see whenever you come. Gardening is done using organic and natural principles.
There are plenty of places to sit and have your picnic, either in the garden or indoors if the weather is inclement. Fika is offered at cost price. Dogs on leads are welcome. There is a toilet for visitors. Lyr honey is available to buy direct from the maker.
The garden is best seen by one group at a time. Please book your visit in advance. You’ll receive directions on how to get here then. It’s an easy walk of around 1500 metres from the car park to get here. Pushchairs are fine but the terrain is not suitable for wheelchairs/rollators. The ferry to Lyr goes from Lyresten on the island of Orust.
