Splendour and beauty

Explore the castle’s three different types of garden from the 1780s - the formal garden, the English landscape garden and the kitchen gardens. The formal garden is an extension of the castle and is comprised of verdant rooms decorated with garden furniture, statuary, urns and exotic plants. The old kitchen garden was probably already in existence before the 1780s but was re-created by the architect Carl Wilhelm Carlberg. The new kitchen garden is situated at the foot of the hothouse and represents a typical 18th century Swedish kitchen garden, with old heritage plant varieties. The hothouse on the terrace is also used to store the plants in urns from the formal garden over the winter. The English parks were created to link the buildings, the gardens and the surrounding cultural landscape. The Orangery has been  restored using the original plans and the result is fabulous. Guided tours of the castle and gardens are available in Swedish and English. There is a public toilet. You’ll find places to eat your own picnic in the gardens, and Gunnebo Coffee House and Restaurant serves organic meals with certified organic ingredients. The gardens can be viewed in a wheelchair but parts of the formal garden are terraced and the grounds contain slopes. There’s a large parking area for buses and cars. Bus stop: Gunnebo Park, 900m.
