An oasis for all the senses and a place for inspiration and reflection
The garden is in a constant state of transition, inspired by everything we know about medieval herb gardens. Ever since ancient times people in the Nordic countries have been interested in the healing properties of plants. The medieval herb garden had a significant spiritual role as it was thought to be an earthly symbol of paradise. Now you can come here and see if this place feels like paradise to you! We hope it does. Here in the Herb Garden at Lödöse Museum you’ll be met by gravelled paths, abundant planting and gorgeous blooms accompanied by the buzzing of bees and in the centre, a well with running water. Do have a seat and enjoy both your own picnic and the fantastic surroundings. In summer various exhibitions and activities are arranged, including talks about the different uses and symbolism of plants in medieval times.
The place is accessible for both wheelchairs, rollators and pushchairs. There is parking and if you are travelling on public transport there is a shuttle bus from the Lödöse Södra train station. The bus takes you all the way to the museum. In the entrance to the museum you’ll find a shop and café as well as toilets. Dogs on leads are welcome in the herb garden.
