A different kind of garden

Welcome to a garden with a manifesto offering a distinctive message: ‘A different kind of garden’ tries to challenge and question traditional garden models in both actions and words.


Baldersnäs Manor

Sitting prettily on a peninsula is Dalsland’s gem, Baldersnäs. The English park, the finest of its kind at the time, was originally created around the beginning of the 19th century.


Bergfeltska garden

Restored visitor garden with roots as far back as the 1600s – part of the listed Västra Gatan street. Parkland trees, perennials and rockeries leading up towards the lookout point, with a view of the Göta River. Open all year round. Guided tours by arrangement. At certain times we also do guided tours of Strandparken, finalist in Park of the Year 2017.


Björnhyltans Garden

Open garden with greenhouse, kitchen garden, herb garden, farm shop and heritage trail. Experience organic gardening in practice here. We offer courses and unique experiences and can arrange guided garden tours. Worth noting – GPS sometimes shows the forest road which is not passable.


Eriksgård in Tvååker

Our focus is on growing perennials that suit our Swedish climate. Mainly wholesale trade but also other sales methods. Lovely private garden that can be shown by arrangement.


Furets Nursery

Garden trails in two gardens; the old nursery garden and the owner’s private garden. Unique and personal. An unusual selection of bushes, trees and perennials.


Gunnebo House & Gardens

Well preserved, neoclassical summer residence with a terraced French formal garden, and large reconstructed kitchen gardens. All enclosed within an English landscape garden with lovely walking trails.


Handens Hus

On the slopes of Kinnekulle with Lake Vänern below, you’ll find Handens Hus. A place for garden inspiration, hand designed crafts, and borders filled with the flowers and plants our bees love best.


Hellekis manor

Welcome to a garden that was mentioned by Carl Linnaeus on his Wästgöta journey through West Sweden in 1746. It’s a serene and beautiful spot.


Hultets Garden

In the middle of the beautiful Storån valley you’ll find Hultet and its garden. Backed by a ridge, flanked by deciduous woodland and with a valley stretching out in front, you can’t be anything other than astounded by the stunning beauty of this place.


Jonsered Gardens

Recreated 19th century manor house garden divided into four areas. Formal garden, kitchen garden, English rose garden, classic English garden and also a Scottish moorland garden, apple orchard and show garden.


Känn Sensory Garden

A family owned garden with six different rooms, each one designed to bring about a special feeling and state of mind.

Föreningen består av hängivna trädgårdsentusiaster/odlare med djup kunskap. Variationen av trädgårdar är rik, både vad gäller inriktning och storlek.


Alaska, Nord-Långö, 452 90 Strömstad
A unique ornamental historic garden from the 1930s laid by the gold prospector Hilma Svedal, who came back from Alaska and built her dream garden in stone. A twenty minute boat ride from Strömstad gets you here. Open to the public during summer. Open for coach tours May to September.

Aspebohl Garden

Cramers Blommor

One of Sweden’s largest garden centres with plants, flowers and accessories for home and garden. A large selection of summer flowers. April-June open most days 9am-7pm. Other months open most days 9am-6pm.

EKA Miljörum

Ekagatan, 666 31 Bengtsfors
EKA Miljörum is Sweden’s first environmental sanctuary. A park with a unique blend of stone, plants and water has been laid in an area of previously heavily polluted industrial land next to Lake Bengtsbrohöljen. Children can explore the stone maze and the water play area, and hop across the stones in the stream. There’s an interesting exhibition about the sanitation work that was carried out, and lovely barbecue areas where you can picnic. On the sunny steps you can enjoy a view of the Dalsland Canal.

Fristorps gård

Guldsmedsgårdens Nursery

Malma Skattegården

Rural and traditional historic garden with old fruit trees, ancient ‘warden trees’ planted to defend against bad luck, meadows, a lilac bower, roses and vegetable patch. Sales of craftwork, apple juice and plants when available. Open by arrangement.

Mariestad’s University Park

Marieholmsbron 3, 542 30 Mariestad
The University park with the island residence of Marieholm welcome all. Inviting parkland areas go together with education and research. The site is the result of a collaboration between Mariestad County Council and the University of Gothenburg. Anyone interested in traditional building and gardening crafts, and landscape architecture, has a great opportunity to study them at close quarters here. Visitors are always welcome to the school of gardening and the residence on the island of Marieholm. The park and garden are open all year round with free entry. Contact: Vadsbo museum.

Museiföreningen Munkedals Jernväg

Ö. Åtorpsvägen 18, 455 31 Munkedal
Follow the re-creation of a railway garden from the beginning of the 1900s. The work started in 2018. Narrow gauge railway and museum with diesel and steam engine. The steam engine needs complete renovation and is currently not in use. See the website for opening times. 


Råda Säteri Park & Garden

Säteriallén 5, 435 32 Mölnlycke
This manor house by Lake Råda dates from the 1300s. The grounds are planted with both garden favourites and unusual plants. Lovely paths around the lake. The gardens are open all year round.


Rångedala Nursery

Two well stocked garden centres with house and garden plants, and all other gardening accessories. Large home décor department. Make your garden dreams into reality here. Open weekdays 10am-6pm, weekends 10am-3pm.

Strandparken in Kungälv

Strandgatan, 442 31 Kungälv
This lovely, restful park is situated on Strandgatan, with the Göteborgs Kex factory to the west and Gamla Torget to the east. There’s a shoreline walk along the adjacent river. The park consists of grassy areas with parkland trees, perennial borders with 80 different kinds of sweet smelling autumn flowering phlox, places to sit and a boules court. During summer you can borrow a sunchair and listen to the gurgling fountains. Nominated as Park of the Year 2017. The park is open all year round.

The museum garden in Bräcke

Bräckeliden 103, 471 72 Hjälteby
The original aromatic garden was laid in 1985 and is now a herb garden, growing a range of old fashioned herb varieties. At the heritage centre there’s a traditional ‘dubbelhus’ (double width house) containing a museum, as well as a small cottage, a longhouse, smithy, school, store and barn, with a large assembly room and café. Open for tours Sundays in July and August 4pm-6pm. During May-September groups can book tours via tel.

Tofta Manor

Tofta 200, 442 75 Lycke
A historic 18th century manor house, and garden inspired by the English style of that period. Walking trails in the grounds and in Tofta Nature Reserve. Summer cafe and play area in the old Magasinet storehouse. Open: Cafe and garden, 22/6–11/8 weds-sun 11.00–17.00, see website for other times. Restaurant in the main building of the manor, open for meals all year round Fri/Sat, during summer Weds-Sat.

Villa Solfrid and Elin’s Garden 

Sunna 101, 471 90, Kyrkesund, Tjörn
Villa Solfrid’s dormant Sleeping Beauty garden dates back to 1916, and was established by the gold prospector’s daughter Miss Elin Sundberg. The journey to bring this hibernating garden back to life has just started, and the hope is to be able to restore it to its blossoming former glory. You’re welcome to wander in the garden on Saturdays and Sundays in July, and Villa Solfrid can be visited with a guide on those days.  Garden cafe every Saturday in July. Västergården Garden

Wallins Garden

A verdant garden where the road ends, with rhododendron and other bushes and trees. There’s water to find a peaceful moment by, and a rockery and vegetable garden, amongst other things. The garden is a great spot for birds and animals. Plants for sale in the little nursery. Ring to visit.

Åstols Park

Östra Dammen, 471 44 Åstol
Lovely green space by the sea which is part of the island of Åstol's cultural heritage. The park is divided into three areas, one for just being, one for children and one for activities. The park is open all year round.


Collaboration with Northeast England
A West Swedish garden handbook is beginning to take shape and the 2018 garden season has been a gentle start, with 13 visitor gardens on the map. We’re aiming high – towards having 100 gardens in West Sweden.
